Impeach Donald Trump

A letter to my Congresswoman:

Dear Congresswoman Stevens,

I sincerely hope that you’re staying safe right now with the attempted coup in the U.S. Capitol. It’s terrifying just watching what’s happening on the news. I can’t imagine what it’s like to experience it firsthand.

Once it’s safe to do so, I urge you to call for the immediate removal of the President under the 25th Amendment, which states:

Whenever the Vice President and a majority of either the principal officers of the executive departments or of such other body as Congress may by law provide, transmit to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives their written declaration that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, the Vice President shall immediately assume the powers and duties of the office as Acting President.

It is clear by the repeated actions of the President that he is unable to discharge the duties of his office, the most important of which is to, “… preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States.” (U.S. Const. art. II, § 1)

I’m also urging you to call for the removal of any members of the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate that have supported his lies about a stolen election under the 14th Amendment, which states:

No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress… shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same.

Those lies have directly led to this moment and the use of violence against you, your fellow citizens, and our long held—but fragile—American institutions.

American democracy, though poorly implemented and unevenly distributed, is worth defending. You are one of the few people in the country who can actually defend it at this moment, so I hope that you do what is necessary to preserve what’s left of our democracy.

Your constituent,
Jason Rodriguez
